{"id":4500,"date":"2020-02-14T13:58:45","date_gmt":"2020-02-14T13:58:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.gli-network.net\/?p=4500"},"modified":"2022-11-10T12:10:16","modified_gmt":"2022-11-10T12:10:16","slug":"tued-bulletin-93-conference-report-on-the-green-new-deal-net-zero-carbon-and-the-crucial-role-of-public-ownership","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.gli-network.net\/?p=4500","title":{"rendered":"TUED Bulletin 93: Conference Report on \u201cThe Green New Deal, Net-Zero Carbon, and the Crucial Role of Public Ownership\u201d"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>On September 28, 2019, more than 150 trade union representatives,  activists and policy allies from more than a dozen countries came  together in New York City for a one-day international conference on \u201c<strong>The Green New Deal, Net-Zero Carbon, and the Crucial Role of Public Ownership<\/strong>.\u201d The conference report is now available for download <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/unionsforenergydemocracy.org\/tued-gnd-conference-report-2019\/\" target=\"_blank\">here<\/a>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The conference took place against the backdrop of the massive \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/globalclimatestrike.net\/&amp;sa=D&amp;ust=1573756577884000\">Global Climate Strike<\/a>\u201d  actions led by young people in numerous countries around the world,  coinciding with the UN \u201cClimate Week\u201d of talks in New York City. In the  weeks before those actions, TUED organized a \u201cGlobal Web Forum\u201d on the  #Strike4Climate, and subsequently compiled a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/unionsforenergydemocracy.org\/union-statements-and-actions-in-support-of-the-youth-led-calls-for-global-climate-action\/&amp;sa=D&amp;ust=1573756577885000\">list of union statements and actions<\/a>&nbsp;in support of the strikes. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The full conference report contains  detailed accounts of the day\u2019s contributions and discussions. Its  contents can be used to stimulate debate and discussion across the  international trade union movement on key pressing issues, such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>How to develop and advance arguments for public ownership of energy, transport, and other key sectors;<\/em><\/li><li><em>How to build an internationalism  anchored in programmatic solidarity based on \u201cpro-public\u201d approaches to  the energy transition; and,<\/em><\/li><li><em>How to organize and struggle for a  \u201cjust transition\u201d for workers and communities around the world that is  genuinely transformative, and that can help achieve the radical change  we need.<\/em><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><em><a href=\"https:\/\/unionsforenergydemocracy.org\/\">Trade Unions for Energy Democracy (TUED)<\/a>\n is a global, multi-sector trade union initiative to advance democratic \ndirection and control of energy in a way that promotes solutions to the \nclimate crisis, energy poverty, the degradation of both land and people,\n and responds to the attacks on workers\u2019 rights and protections.
