It is intended to \ncontribute towards an understanding of how paratransit services can be \nincrementally improved and professionalised to minimize some of its \nnegative effects on Kampala\u2019s overall transport system, and how to \nintegrate the existing informal service into the proposed new Bus Rapid \nTransit (BRT) system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research and subsequent report were undertaken through a contract with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.afd.fr\/fr\">Agence Fran\u00e7aise de D\u00e9veloppement (AFD) <\/a>to support the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gou.go.ug\/\">Government of Uganda <\/a>and the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kcca.go.ug\/\">Kampala Capital City Authority <\/a>in preparation of the planned introduction of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) in Kampala.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The assessment is based on desk research, street survey \nquestionnaires, focus group discussions, in-depth interviews with \nworkers, key informant interviews, field observations and interviews on \nproposed BRT routes, and additional field research.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report provides recommendations based on the findings of the research.   <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-small-font-size\"><a href=\"https:\/\/gli-manchester.net\/\">GLI Manchester<\/a> is a \nnot-for-profit company, working closely with a range of global union \nfederations, national trade  unions, research institutions and workers\u2019 \neducation organisations. It conducts education, capacity-building and \nresearch on  international  labour movement development and organising \nstrategies.
